The Bachelor 17: Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici Interview

Yesterday, Sean and Catherine spoke to reporters. The topics varied from Dancing With the Stars to their engagement and his indecision. The couple seemed very much in love and excited to share their engagement with the world. I was very happy to be on the call, Sean and Catherine are as sweet as they are on TV.

Question: Sean was asked about why he decided to do Dancing With the Stars if he wasn’t looking for fame.

Sean
“Well, you know, I've always said that I'm not looking for fame. In fact, I don't like the
fame aspect of being the bachelor or being on Dancing with the Stars. I wish I could – you know, I can't go out in Dallas with my buddies anymore because I'm left taking pictures the whole night because people – you know, they recognize me and they want to take pictures.

And, you know, I don't want the fame itself, but when an opportunity like Dancing with the Stars comes along, it's too good to pass up. It's going to be an incredibly unique challenge. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I wouldn't have taken it had Catherine not been OK with it. And she was the first person I called. She is fully supporting me. She's in my corner. She's going to be along in this crazy ride with me.

And, you know, I'm just – I'm a person that loves to try new things and step outside my comfort zone and that's what I'm doing with Dancing with the Stars.”

Question: How do you think the next few weeks or month – couple of months, you know, being on Dancing with the Stars is going to affect the time that you are guys were supposed to be spending getting to know each other? Like, how is it going to affect your relationship?

Sean
“I don't think it's going to affect it too much to be honest with you. You know, we have put in a lot of time learning how to dance. But that's normally five hours a day or so. So, I still have a lot of time on my hands and that will allow me and Catherine to, you know, explore L.A. together and be normal, go on dates and just do simple things like that that we've been wanting to do for so long.“

Catherine
“Yes. I mean, I'm excited to explore the city. I know that I'm going to try and find something, you know, for myself so that we can both share experiences together. And I'm excited for him and I'm excited for us and what this is, you know, going to do for our relationship in a positive way.“

Question: Catherine, I know that you worked at Amazon. Can you tell me what you did there? Are you still working there and are you going to continue once you're in L.A. during the Dancing with the Stars?

“I started in Amazon in January of 2012 and, you know, I quit for the show and, since then, I had a different position there. So, when I started, I was hired to do design work for the Amazon Kindle family, so I did that and – and kind of went into a little bit more of online commerce ads. And when they rehired me recently after the show, I did a little bit more strategy.”

Question: And, Catherine, I have to ask you a little bit about, you know, how you felt that Sean hadn't come to a decision yet until kind of a couple of hours before he proposed?

“Well, I accepted and I understood what I was getting myself into from the first night and I don't fault him for having feelings for multiple women. That is what the show is about. It was trying to find your true partner. So, knowing that he was, you know, conflicted, that doesn't bother me because the end
result, he was in love with me.”

Question: You know, the ratings are up and obviously, Sean, you have a lot to do with that. I've seen articles attributing your appeal to sort of your wholesome nature, that you're religious, you're family oriented. Do you agree with that? Why do you think viewers latched on to you so positively this year?

“I'm not sure. I was really surprised at the ratings. And I'm so glad that America and the rest of the world has responded the way it has and the ratings are up. Yes. I went into the season with one goal in mind and that was to be myself and to keep an open mind and an open heart throughout the entire ride. And, you know, the viewers have responded well and if it's my wholesome nature, my family values, then, I think that's a great thing.”

Question: So you mentioned once that you guys wanted to get married soon, so what are your plans for the future, what does this mean for your wedding plans and were you guys nervous to announce them, the televised wedding plans so early on in your relationship?

Catherine
“No, I don't think we were nervous to announce just because we are really serious about it and we want everybody to know that we are thinking about it honestly and I don't think that any other opportunities are really going to get in our way to having that big day for us.”

Question: And so, what does this mean for your wedding plans? I know that you guys want to get married soon. Do you want to take to it slow or…?

Sean

“I don't know, we haven't planned a date and part of having a TV wedding means you have to kind of partner up with the network and figure out the perfect time. So a lot is still in the air but once we figure it out we will be sure to let everybody know.”

Question: I just wanted to ask you about the wedding, why did you decide to televise it , is it just because you want to share it with the fans or…?

“Yes, I mean we thought it was only fitting. Our relationship started and it was formed on TV and the world has had the chance to watch it, be cultivated on TV and you know we think it would be a special thing to have it televised and everyone associated with the show we've grown very close to and, you know, they would obviously produce the wedding as well. So I think it would be fun and it would be nice and it would be really cool to enjoy that experience with all of our friends and family.”

Question: Have you made any decision about Chris Harrison, will he be officiating?

“I doubt Chris will be officiating only because, you know, my dad is an ordained minister, my grandfather is a minister, there is a lot of ministers in line that might supersede Chris Harrison.”

Question: Catherine, you talked on the show about your relationship with your dad if he – and that he lives out of the country. Is he going to be at the wedding?

“Absolutely. He will be walking me down the aisle. My dad, I love him so much. And, you know, I've – I said a lot of personal things on the show. And I just wanted to reiterate the fact that he is such a part of my life and I love him so much, and I'm excited for him to be part of the wedding."

Question: What is the deal with the dresses in the proposal scene? Did they tell you guys both to wear metallic colors?

“That's actually really funny because I was talking to the stylist yesterday. It's just that we have very similar styles, I guess. And that just happened to be a coincidence. We had a lot to choose from and we just landed on the same thing. For me my choice was because of the scene and, you know, Thailand is very opulent and want to just be, you know, partnered up with the scene that we are in.”

Question: Catherine, who are you hoping to keep in touch with from the cast, who are some of your friends from the show?

Lesley, Catherine Daniella and Robyn.

“I made a lot of friends and that was to my surprise. I think everybody knows I was best friends with Lesley Murphy and I also made really good friends with (Robyn) and (Daniella), some I still keep in touch with – you know pretty much all of the girls I have somewhat of a relationship with but I'm sure you'll be seeing some of them in the future with me.”

Question: Sean, who's going to be your best man and, Catherine, who will be your maid of honor?

Sean

“That is still to be determined for me. I've got a lot of close friends and family members. And I have not made that decision just yet.”

Catherine
“I have already told my maid of honor that she will be holding that very great position. Crista Osher has been – she was the one that signed me up for the show. She found my prince charming. And she's been so supportive and such a lady this whole time. I've been really blessed to have her in my life. “

Question: What is the nerdiest thing you two have done together?

Catherine

“Yes, he calls me a nerd. I would like to say I'm a dork. But, you know, we do nerdy things, for sure.”

Sean
“She – she quotes Harry Potter all the time. “

Catherine

“I never quote Harry. He's lying. I never quote Harry Potter. I don't know. I think that that multiplication contest in Thailand was pretty nerdy.”

Question: Are you still writing notes?

Catherine

“Oh, yes, notes are, you know, are important for me to express to him, that I'm thinking about him all the time and just for him to take around. They're really small so he can take them around wherever he wants. And I think that that's really special to our relationship, and I'm doing as much as I can. “

Question: Catherine how did you feel about everyone just staring and, you know, talking about your fiancĂ©’s abs and body and being shirtless this whole season? How do you feel about that?

Catherine
"I mean, obviously, he has an amazing body, so I don't – I never saw any issue with that. I thought it was funny. But, no, I mean, if America likes it, then I don't have any problem with it."

Reporter

"So you didn't have any jealousy with that?"

Catherine

"I mean, if I could have abs like that, I don't know how it would feel, but I don't -- jealousy in terms of the women that like him?"

Reporter
"Yes. Yes, other people looking at him."

Catherine

"Oh, I mean..."

Sean

"She – she's jealous that she doesn't have my abs."

Catherine

"Yes."

Sean

"But she's not jealous of the women."

Catherine

"Yes. That's it."

Reporter

"Well, that's good that you guys are finishing each other's sentences already."

Question: And – and for Sean – did you ever feel conscious, felt conscious at some point during the show? And, if so, when was that, you know, specifically with these nude scenes?

“Yes. I – I always feel self-conscious especially -- if it was like steamy make out, I always think, "Oh, man, my grandmother is watching this back home." It's just a little awkward. And then every time they have the gratuitous shirtless scenes like in a towel or in the shower, especially at the conclusion of the Sean Tell All episode where they have like the '70s porno music playing and showing me in the shower, I was really uncomfortable watching that.”

Question from me: What was your favorite date from the entire season?

Sean

Snow bus date in Canada!

"It has to be our date in Canada where we went on to the Glacier and the giant snow bus, that was our very first one-on-one date. And that was just a special day. The two of us, we had so much fun during the day playing around, acting like big kids, and then, in the evening, having, you know, the romantic time inside the ice castle. That was – that was just a day that I'll never forget."

Catherine

"I thought that Thailand and (Kobi) was really, really special. I mean, both – both places, I had a different appreciation for him because I missed him so much after hometown dates and being away from him for so long, I really could have a different connection with him when I was in Thailand. So that was really memorable to me on a lot of levels."

Question from me: Was there a moment of you which we would have seen that we didn't get to?

Catherine

"We – we, actually, during the elephant date, we got sprayed by them while we were kissing, and that was just such a silly moment. We wish that would have been shown. And maybe it will be somewhere available to everybody."

Question: Many have come before you that haven't made it, but the day after the show, they're all excited about how they're going to get married and – why – why is this different for you guys?

Sean
“You know, we've always said that we don't pay attention to the track record of past bachelors and bachelorettes. I mean, we know what we have. We know what our relationship is, and that's good enough for us. We don't have to justify it. We're – we're happy with who we are and what we have – and that's all we need.”

Question: Catherine what do you think about Desiree, you got to know her so well and how do think she will be as the next Bachelorette?

The next Bachelorette, Desiree.
Photo Rights: ABC
“I really like Desiree and I think that she is going to do a really good job. She is really sweet and she is really pretty and I think that she obviously has really good intentions so nothing but the best for her.”

The interview with Lindsay will be posted later this week.

Ashley
